About Me

Randolph “Scotty” Scott is a lifelong public servant, union worker, military veteran, father and community advocate running for Iowa House of Representatives in District 33 because he is a 20-year union member who understands the dignity of work and the importance of fair wages, safe workplaces, and strong benefits.
As a 13-year military veteran, Scotty learned the values of discipline, teamwork, and service to something greater than himself — values he believes are urgently needed in today’s politics. Beyond his professional and military service, Scotty has dedicated himself to caring for others in deeply personal ways. He has served as a teacher, coach, and foster parent, experiences that shaped his belief that every policy decision should be measured by how it impacts each generation from child to elderly as well as those who are stable to those who are vulnerable. From classrooms to living rooms, Scotty has seen firsthand what Iowans need to thrive — and where the system too often falls short.

Randolph “Scotty” Scott was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1961. After losing his parents early in life, Scott was raised by his grandmother, Lula Nolden, in the small farming community of Waterproof, Louisiana, northwest of New Orleans, along the Mississippi River.

After graduating from high school in 1979, Scott enlisted in the US Army. After a military career that took him around the world, Scott moved back to Louisiana, where he worked as a substitute teacher, coached track and basketball, and co-founded a company, M & S Security Systems. After Hurricane Katrina happened in 2005, he relocated to Des Moines, Iowa where he had once been a recruiter.

Since being in Des Moines, he has been a coach at Saydel and East High School respectively, Teen Director at Logan Boys and Girls Club, and union member of Firestone/Steward at Local 310 then to JDDW/Local 450, where he has served in numerous positions from Veterans Chair , Human and Civil Rights Vice Chair, Alternate Committeeman and most recently, Co-Founder of Coalition of Black Trade Unionist Iowa.
"My joy is always to give back because so many have poured into my life. I made the decision to serve politically after being encouraged by multiple members of the community."
"I want to be someone who makes sense [of things] and not just makes noise."
